What LBCC courses transfer to private schools such as USC and what is their GE?
Each private school will determine which one of your LBCC courses transfer to their institution. This is usually done through the evaluation of your transcripts which you mail to them. There may be select private schools such as USC which list LBCC transferable courses and GE on their website. For example, you can obtain a list of USC transferable courses at LBCC and USC GE courses at LBCC by going to https://camel2.usc.edu/articagrmt/artic.aspx

If I attended another college and got a "W" in every class, do I have to submit these grades/transcripts to the university I am applying to?
It is very important that you submit transcripts for all colleges and universities which you attended and received a grade or indicator on a transcript. In the case of all 'w' indicators, you must submit the transcript to the university to which you plan to transfer. When you sign the application, you are agreeing to the terms which include that you submit all transcripts from all institutions attended.

Am I eligible for an LBCC Associates degree if I fulfill transfer requirement to a CSU or UC school?
Many students do not know that they have satisfied most LBCC AA requirements in Liberal Arts at LBCC when they complete admissions requirements for a CSU or UC school. If you completed LBCC GE Plan B or Plan C with 60 transferable units and have completed the reading proficiency requirement at LBCC, you may petition for an AA in Liberal Arts (option II) at Long Beach City College. Students apply for the degree during the semester when the degree requirements will be completed. This is done through the Admissions/Records Office. You have done the work to transfer. Why not get a LBCC degree for your efforts as well!

Do I have to have all my course work completed at the time that I apply to a four-year university?
Transfer students are not expected to have completed the university admissions requirements at the time that they apply for admission to a university. In most applications there is a section to enter courses currently in progress or planned for the future. Universities will accept you conditionally based on this self-reported application information. Universities expect you to have admissions requirements in progress or planned by the time you begin at their campus. Some universities will want admissions requirements completed by a certain time prior to transfer. Please check with your counselor or university representative on when your university requires you to complete your transfer requirements. |

Is IGETC (LBCC Plan C) required for admission to a UC campus?
IGETC Certification is one way of satisfying the lower division general education requirements before reaching a CSU, UC or selective private university. The IGETC is not an admissions requirement. Completing it is not required, nor does it guarantee admission to the campus or program of choice. If you choose to follow the IGETC, you must complete it before you transfer; otherwise you will be required to satisfy the specific lower division general education requirements at the university you will eventually attend. In most cases it is advised that you complete the IGETC. There are some majors and schools who do not suggest you complete IGETC requirements. For example, high unit majors such as engineering, containing many major preparatory courses, sometimes suggest that you concentrate on minimum admissions requirements and completion of major courses rather than on completion of IGETC. Consult with your LBCC counselor or university representative on whether your future major or transfer university suggests completion of IGETC. An appointment with an LBCC counselor is necessary for any IGETC Certification.
|
Can I use courses from another college to meet IGETC requirements?
All IGETC coursework does not have to be completed at the same college. Courses completed at another community college will be used on Long Beach City College’s IGETC (Plan C) exactly as they are used on the previous college’s IGETC. Courses taken at other colleges/universities can be used on IGETC only if they are judged to be equivalent to the courses on Long Beach City College’s IGETC (Plan C). However, 50% of the coursework used on an IGETC must be from a California Community College.

Is the CSU General Education pattern (LBCC Plan B) required for admission to a CSU campus?
Certification of GE-Breadth (LBCC Plan B) is not required prior to transfer. However, it is highly suggested. CSU campuses will accept partial certification of one or more complete areas (e.g., all of the units required for Area A). The “Golden Four” courses, which are part of General Education, are required for transfer to CSU campuses. Completing all of the areas and obtaining full certification will fulfill all lower division general education at a CSU campus. (Note: 30 units of GE courses must be completed for admission to a CSU). If you are using courses from another college or university to be placed into the LBCC Plan B, please make sure that those transcripts from your other schools are sent to LBCC and that you see a counselor to officially place these GE courses in the LBCC Plan B. This process is known as “pass-along” certification, and must be completed by an LBCC counselor.
|
Can I use courses form other colleges for CSU General Education certification?
Courses taken at another California community college can be used for certification in the GE areas where they were used at the previous community college. The course must be approved for CSU certification for the year that it was taken. Courses taken at other CSU campuses will be approved for certification if they met a general education
requirement in that category or area on that CSU campus. Courses taken at private universities can be used only if they approved by the LBCC department head of the area in which the GE course is to be counted. 50% (7 LBCC GE courses equaling a minimum of 20 units) must be completed at LBCC for a full CSU GE Certification to be granted.
|
Can courses taken outside of the U.S. be used for IGETC or CSU certification?
Courses taken outside the U.S. must be evaluated by the 4-year institution to be used to meet that specific university’s GE pattern.
